PALMER – Before the Wasilla Warriors hit the field Friday, head coach Blake Livingston asked his team for one thing – give him a full 80 minutes.
The Warriors didn’t disappoint.
Wasilla upset top-seeded Colony 4-2 during the Northern Lights Conference semifinals Friday at Colony High School.
“We embraced it,” Livingston said of the third-seeded Warriors role as underdogs in the match.
Wasilla now moves into the NLC final and will play Grace Christian Saturday at 4 p.m. at CHS. The Warriors also earned one of the conference’s three state tournament berths.
Grace Christian boys 4, Palmer 1
PALMER – The Grace Christian boys used three second-half goals to beat Palmer 4-1 in the NLC semifinals.
Daniel Burton scored in the first half for the Moose to help force a 1-1 tie at the intermission. Palmer will play Colony Saturday at noon at CHS. The winner of that match finishes third in the region and will punch its ticket to the state tournament.
Colony girls 2, Kenai 0
PALMER – Junior Brittney Anderson scored twice to lead the Colony Knights to a 2-0 NLC semifinal win over Kenai Friday.
Anderson’s goals were set up by assists from Jamie Krediet and Ali Baker.
Colony will now play Soldotna in the NLC title match Saturday at 2 p.m.
Soldotna girls 1, Wasilla 0
PALMER – The Soldotna Stars slipped past Wasilla 1-0 in the NLC girls semifinals Friday.
Wasilla can still earn a state tourney berth with a win over Kenai Saturday morning. That match is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
