SOLDOTNA — Jeff Frey led the Wasilla Warriors boys swimming and diving squad to the team title at the Soldotna Pentathlon at Soldotna High School on Friday.
Frey was the top swimming in the pentathlon — a meet that tests swimmers’ ability in five different events. Frey’s total time of 2 minutes, 39.15 seconds was three seconds faster than second-place Winter Heaven of Soldotna.
Frey scored the top individual time in three of the five events en route to claiming the top spot. His time of 56.26 in the 100-yard individual medley, his 25.96 in the 50 backstroke and time of 22.60 in the 50 freesyle were all meet bests.
Frey was one of two Warriors to finish in the top four and four to place in the top seven. Christian Long (2:44.84) finished fourth, while Charles Frey (2:49.11) was sixth and Max Merriam (2:52.77) was seventh.
Colony, led by Karina Barria, finished sixth in the girls’ team standings. Barina placed 10th overall for Colony.
Wasilla was seventh on the girls’ side. Caity Stigen led the Warriors witha 11th-place finish.

Knights score pair of second-place finishes in Soldotna tri
SOLDONTA — The Colony Knights finished second in both the boys and girls team standings at a tri-meet hosted by Soldotna High School on Saturday.
Four Knights won individual events during the boys’ meet to help Colony finish with 117 total points, 22 behind first-place Soldotna.
Rhowe Stefanski used a time of 23.98 to win the 50 freestyle. Stefanski’s teammate, Adam Kincaid, finished second.
Colony’s Alexander Deedy also finished ahead of a teammate to win the 1-meter diving event. Connor Eshleman finished second in the event for the Knights.
Joseph Nelson (100 butterfly) and Nicholas Brunger (500 freestyle) also won events.
Karina Barria was the lone Colony swimmer to win an event on the girls’ side. Barria finshed first in the 50 freestyle.
Kayla Anderson (200 freestyle) and Suzannah Whitford (1-meter diving) posted second-place finishes for the Knights.
