Days after being arrested on 10 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material, authorities have confirmed that the deceased adult male remains found at a residence in Wasilla that had caught fire were those of Ryan McDonough.
In an update to the online dispatch, Alaska State Troopers (AST) wrote that "The preliminary investigation indicates the deceased male located in the residence is Ryan McDonough." His remains had been recovered and sent to the State's Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy and positive identification following a fire to his family residence on December 13. The fire, which was reported at 6:50 p.m. that evening, at the home on West Discovery Loop near Wasilla, was fully engulfed in flames, they said in an online dispatch. The other residents of the home are safe, troopers said.
McDonough was arrested last week following an ongoing investigation by Task Force Dawnbreaker—comprised of the Alaska Bureau of Investigation’s Technical Crimes Unit (ABI TCU), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and the Anchorage Police Department —into child sexual abuse material.
McDonough, a cardiologist at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center and Mat-Su Medical Group, had also been recently appointed to the State Medical Board by the governor.
After pleading not guilty to the charges, reports indicate that his wife paid his $50,000 bond. Reports indicate that his wife posted the bond.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene to investigate the origin and cause of the fire. The investigation into the origins of the fire is ongoing.
