The Wasilla City Council is seeking qualified candidates to fill City Council Seat A, with the term set to end later this year. The seat had been previously filled by Colleen Sullivan-Leonard, who submitted her resignation last month, citing health reasons.
“Colleen served for six years on this body, and was a leader and driving force of a lot of things, including land use, Title 16 issues, and the previous comp plans,” said Councilman Stu Graham, who commended the outgoing council woman for always answering his questions because she was so well-versed on regarding the city’s comprehensive plans.
“Colleen and I don’t agree on everything, but we do agree to talk about everything and that’s important, not just in today’s society but today’s families and today’s governments,” said Councilman Graham.
Sullivan-Leonard also served in the State House, representing the 7th District before serving on the Wasilla City Council.
For those interested in filing for Council Seat A, qualified candidates must submit a completed Application for Appointment accompanied by a Letter of Interest to the City Clerk’s Office during the application period, March 11-19, 2024
A person is eligible to be a council member as long as that person is registered and in all other respects qualified to vote in city elections as provided in Wasilla Municipal Code 4.08.010; and has been a resident of the city or of territory annexed to the city for one year immediately prior to appointment.
Applications are available from the City Clerk’s Office. The City Council is expected to fill the vacancy at the March 27, 2024, City Council Meeting through an interview process.
