WASILLA — A Wasilla reserve came up big for the Warriors during a nonconference win Saturday afternoon. Mallory Wheeler scored a team-high 15 points to help lead her squad to a 68-47 win over visiting West Valley at Wasilla High School.
Wheeler shot 5 of 7 from the field, and also hit all five of her free throw attempts during the win. She added four rebounds and a pair of steals. Olivia Davies scored 14 for the Warriors, and Catherine Baham added a dozen.
The Warriors earned a pair of wins over Interior opponents during the weekend. Friday, Wasilla beat Lathrop 52-42. McKenna Dinkel led the Warriors with a double-double, 10 points and 10 rebounds. Davies scored a team-best 13. Baham and Azlynn Brandenburg added 11 each.
Later Friday, the Wasilla boys earned a 61-44 win over Lathrop. Aeron Milliron hit a trio of threes and scored a team-high 15 for Wasilla. Isaac Houck added 14, and Kobe Brown chipped in 10.
The Wasilla boys also completed a weekend sweep with an 80-60 win over West Valley. Reilly Devine led the Warriors with 21 and Brown added 20. Milliron finished with 18.
Knights split with West Valley, sweep Lathrop
Colony knocked down a half-dozen three-pointers en route to a 56-47 girls basketball win over West Valley Friday night at Colony High School
Haylee Duguid hit a trio of threes and scored 11 points to help the Knights earn the nonconference win. Amanda Smith added a pair of three-pointers and scored a team-high 14. Ella Smith chipped in 10.
West Valley forced the doubleheader split with a 66-52 boys’ basketball victory. Cornelius Mingo Jr. led West Valley with a game-high 17.
Isaiah Neuner and Sullivan Menard pitched in 14 each for the Knights.
The Colony girls completed the weekend sweep with a 35-28 win over Lathrop Saturday. Duguid drained three of Colony’s six threes in the win, and scored a team-high 10 points. Amanda Smith added eight.
The Colony boys bounced back from Friday’s loss with a 53-47 win over Lathrop on Saturday. Menard led the Knights with 13. Neuner added nine.
