The Wasilla Warriors have cruised through basically all of the 2025 prep flag football regular season. But there was one blemish on their record, a midseason loss to rival Colony.
But Wasilla had a shot of redemption. And the Warriors earned it on Colony’s turf.
Wasilla scored 36 unanswered points and grabbed a 36-7 victory over the Knights Sept. 23 at Colony High School.
Warriors senior quarterback Savannah Kroon accounted for all five Wasilla touchdowns. Kroon threw three touchdown passes, and ran for two more. Danielle Steiner caught two of the touchdowns. Katie Jackson also had a scoring catch.
Colony took a 7-0 lead in the second quarter. Knights quarterback Bri Parent rushed for a three-yard touchdown. The Knights defense also had a pair of big stops during the first two-and-a-half quarters. Colony stopped the Warriors on the 3-yard line early, and again on the 2-yard line in the second quarter.
The Warriors were finally able to crack the end zone in the second quarter with a Kroon 31-yard touchdown run. Kroon hit Steiner with a 12-yard touchdown pass later in the second to give Wasilla its first lead of the game, a 14-6 advantage.
Steiner added a 7-yard scoring grab late in the first half. That touchdown was set up by an AJ Johnson interception.
Kroon gave Wasilla a 28-7 lead with a 3-yard touchdown run in the third. Jackson caught a 14-yard touchdown pass for the Warriors in the fourth quarter.
The Warriors also had wins over South Anchorage and West Valley in the last week. The Warriors beat the Wolverines 28-7 and blanked West Valley 64-0.
Wasilla ended the regular season 16-1 overall and 11-1 in the Railbelt Conference. The Warriors are the top seed in the conference tournament, which starts Thursday at Lathrop High School in Fairbanks.
The Warriors are averaging more than 42 points per game, and have outscored opponents 721-118. Wasilla has also won 11 straight.
North Pole will have the No. 2 seed in the conference tourney with a 10-2 mark. Colony (8-3) will be third.
The Knights close the regular season against Palmer on Tuesday. Colony also beat West Valley 26-0 last week.
