Wasilla freshman wins second cross country race of season

SEWARD — Wasilla freshman Jenna Ford made it 2-for-2 in her young running career with a first-place finish at the Seward Invitational in Seward last week.

Ford used a time of 20 minutes and 2 seconds to post a victory in the races that included runners from Colony, Kodiak, Soldotna, Kenai and Wasilla.

Ford also won the Colony Twilight Race at Colony High School on Aug. 18.

Colony won the girls team title. Alyssa Hutchins led the Knights with a third-place finish. Abby Jahn finished sixth for the Knights.

Morgan Dampier was ninth for the Warriors.

Wasilla finished second in the boys’ class to lead Valley teams. The Warriors, led by sophomore Michael Johnston’s sixth-place finish, had 53 total points. Colony finished third with 55.

Tanner Enloe finished eighth to lead the Knights.

Travis Patterson finished 28th to lead the fifth-place Houston Hawks.

Knights open with win

PALMER — The Colony Knights opened the 2009 season with a victory. Colony swept Houston 3-0 (25-9, 25-10, 25-8) in nonconference action at Houston High School.

Colony returns to the court today to participate in the Chugiak Invitational at Chugiak High School. The Palmer Moose will also compete in the tourney.

Also on the hardwood, Wasilla is at Kodiak two start its Northern Lights Conference season with a pair of matches agianst the Bears this weekend.

Auto racing

McDonald wins in bandoleros

WASILLA — Demi McDonald, ranked fourth in the season points total, pulled off a win in the bandoleros class during racing action at North Star Speedway in Wasilla last Saturday.

McDonald finished ahead of Carly Meacham and Tim Workman in the feature race.
