PALMER — Even during victories, Wasilla head coach Jeannie Hebert-Truax saw plenty that her team could improve on. Thursday, the longtime head coach saw the Warriors much closer to where she would like the Warriors to be.
Wasilla used a 17-3 second-quarter run to score a 54-29 win over the Palmer Moose at Palmer High School.
“We played really good and were able to pull away from them,” Hebert-Truax said.
Palmer did lead 6-4 early, and the score was tied at 6-6 during the first quarter. But with the score tied, junior Alyssa Hutchins hit one of her four three-pointers in the game. That shot gave the Warriors a 9-6 lead and sparked a big Warrior run. Wasilla ended the first half on a 26-5 run.
“The kids just buckled down defensively,” Hebert-Truax said. “Offensively, we kind of got it going without turning it over.
Hutchins led the Warriors with a game-high 19. She scored eight of Wasilla’s 17 in the second quarter. Senior Hilary Apangolook and sophomore Alexis Imoe added nine points each.
Sophomore Taylor Blake led the Moose with six.
Wasilla, which hosts Homer and Skyview this weekend, improved to 8-0 in Northern Lights Conference play. Palmer ended its NLC regular season 2-8.
