Wasilla girls finish 3-0 on road trip

WASILLA — Late last month, the West Valley Wolfpack upset the Wasilla Warriors on their home floor.

Thursday, Wasilla returned the favor.

Senior Leya DePriest used 14 points and eight rebounds to help Wasilla score a 39-38 nonconference victory over the Wolfpack at West Valley High School in Fairbanks. It marked the third meeting of the regular season between the Alaska 4A girls basketball powers. Thursday’s game was the rubber match, with each program netting a victory over the other earlier in the season.

Wasilla’s loss to West Valley on Feb. 26 was it’s first to an Alaska opponent this season. Wasilla’s only other loss came to a team from Oklahoma during a holiday tournament in Florida.

Wasilla added wins over Lathrop and Monroe Catholic during a three-day weekend road trip in Fairbanks.

Friday, freshman Olivia Davies netted 17 points during a 63-51 victory at Lathrop. Willow Drorbaugh and DePriest added 10 each. Wasilla capped its trip by smothering Monroe Catholic 71-23 on Saturday.

Wasilla boys bounce Lathrop

The Wasilla boys finished 1-2 on the trip.

The Warriors beat Lathrop 65-62 on Friday. Reilly Devine led the Warriors with 19 points. Daniel Headdings added 18 and Kobe Brown chipped in 11. Isaac Houck notched a double-double, with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Warriors suffered losses to West Valley and Monroe Catholic during the trip. Thursday, West Valley beat Wasilla 60-43. Brown scored for WHS.

Monroe beat Wasilla 41-28 on Saturday. Houck finished with another double-double, collecting 16 points and 13 rebounds.
