Wasilla girls score nonconference wins

WASILLA — The Wasilla Warriors scored a road victory in a showdown of two of the top 4A girls teams in Alaska.

Defending state champion Wasilla earned a 44-37 win over Chugiak Saturday afternoon at Chugiak High School. Wasilla, ranked No. 1 by the Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches led 25-15 at halftime, and held on for a seven-point win over Chugiak, ranked third in the AABC 4A girls poll. Catherine Baham hit a pair of three-pointers for the Warriors, and scored a team-high 13 points. Azlynn Brandenburg added a dozen and McKenna Dinkel chipped in 10.

Friday, Wasilla cruised to a 67-18 nonconference win at West Anchorage. The Warriors led 28-2 in the first quarter.

Dinkel finished 10 of 13 shooting with a game-high 22 points.
