PALMER— Wasilla senior Azlynn Brandenburg continued her tear and the Warriors received big minutes from their reserves during a 59-44 win over Colony Tuesday night at Colony High School.
Brandenburg scored a game-high 23 points in the victory to help Wasilla improve to 6-0 in Northern Lights Conference play. The Colorado Mesa University recruit scored 22 of her 23 points during the first three quarters, as the Warriors handed Colony (4-1) its first NLC loss of the season.
Brandenburg was also one of four different Warriors to finish with at least three fouls in the game. Wasilla sophomore Harmony McSorley, in place of Brandenburg, stepped in for the Warriors and scored four points off the bench in the fourth. Carrisa Vasquez, Desirae Titus and Jordan Cox also played big minutes in reserves for the Warriors.
Wasilla and Colony combined for 36 total fouls.
Olivia Davies added 20 points for Wasilla, and scored 15 of her 20 during Wasilla’s 31-point second half. Davies hit a key three during the third quarter, and was 8 of 9 from the free throw line during the final two quarters.
The Warriors also needed a big fourth quarter on the defensive end to get pat Colony. Senior Alex Carlton scored all seven Colony points during the final frame. The guard hit her team’s lone field goal of the fourth, a three-pointer. She was also 4 of 4 from the free throw line. Carlton led the Knights with 21.
Carlton also scored six of Colony’s 11 first-quarter points.
Brandenburg’s effort marked the third time in the last five games she scored at least 22 points in a game. Since missing a two-game series against Kodiak early in the month, Brandenburg is averaging 19.1 points per game and shooting 46 percent in her last six.
