WASILLA — Scoring was scarce for Wasilla’s first two opponents on its Northern Lights Conference schedule.
On the heels of allowing only 10 second-half points during a 58-28 victory over Soldotna Friday night, the Warriors held Kenai to 11 total points in a 60-11 drubbing of the Kardinals Saturday afternoon at Wasilla High School.
Wasilla raced to a 22-1 first quarter lead Saturday, and didn’t allow a Kenai field goal until Kelsey Booth dropped in a three-pointer with 24 seconds to play in the second quarter. Alli Steinbeck had Kenai’s only other bucket in the game, going to the basket, drawing a foul and completing the three-point play during the first minute of the final period.
Meanwhile all 12 Warriors in uniform saw time on the floor, and nine of the 12 found themselves in the scorebook. McKenna Dinkel led the Warriors with 13 points. Olivia Davies added a dozen. Taylor Anderson chipped in 10 to help Wasilla improve to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in NLC play.
The Wasilla defense forced 36 Kenai turnovers.
Anderson was one of a trio of Warriors who supplied first-quarter three-pointers to help fuel Wasilla’s fast start. Davies scored seven during the Warriors 22-point first.
Friday, Wasilla stormed out to a 17-6 lead after the first quarter. Soldotna was able to cut into the deficit, trailing only 26-18 at halftime, but the Warriors dominated the second half. Wasilla outscored the Stars 32-10 in the second half.
Catherine Baham paced Wasilla with 14 points, connecting on 5 of 7 shots. Leya DePriest added 13 and was 6 of 9 from the floor.
Overall, Wasilla shot 39 percent (22 of 57), had 37 rebounds and 19 turnovers, while SoHi shot 24 percent (8 of 34), had 26 rebounds and 33 turnovers.
Lindsey Wong had 14 points to pace the Stars.
