Wasilla girls' squad earns weekend sweep

The Wasilla girls' soccer squad earned a pair of victories at Wasilla High School this weekend.

The Warriors not only defeated both of their opponents, but they shut out each foe.

On Friday the Warriors blanked the Skyview Panthers 5-0.

Wasilla jumped out to an early lead, scoring a pair of goals in the first seven minutes and four goals in the first half.

Katharine Wien picked up a lose rebound created on a Racheal Roddick and put the ball in the Panther net three minutes into the contest for Wasilla.

Wasilla took a 2-0 lead when Cara Hasslebach booted a shot past the Skyview keeper.

Megan Stearman and Jackie Gettler tallied unassisted scores in the first half.

Cheyenne Gilman scored the Warriors' fifth goal in the second half. Gilman dribbled the length of the field before scoring.

Melissa Wallace and Allie Johnson combined for the Warrior shutout.

The following afternoon, Wasilla drilled Seward 6-0.

Stearman and Tiffany Smodey each scored two goals for Wasilla.

Gilman and Stephanie Roddick also scored.

Warrior boys tie

The Wasilla boys tied the Skyview Panthers 2-2 at Wasilla High School Friday.

Loren Smith and Spencer Roddick each scored for Wasilla.

Seahawks edge Hawks

The visiting Seward Seahawks defeated the Houston boys 4-2 at Houston High School Friday.

Lok Lee, an exchange student from Hong Kong and the Hawk team captain, scored both Houston goals.

"His first goal was outstanding," Houston boys' assistant coach Chad Rice said. "It is the most beautiful thing I have seen from one of our players."

Lee scored on a direct penalty kick. The Lee shot sailed over the Seward goal keeper and into the upper right hand corner of the net.

On Lee's second score, he dribbled through the Seahawk defense before putting his shot in the back of the net.

The Seward girls defeated the Houston girls 3-0 earlier in the day.

Panthers sweep Hawks

The visiting Skyview Panthers downed the Houston Hawks in a pair of games at Houston High School

Saturday.

The Skyview boys won 7-0, while the girls took a 4-0 decision.

Hawks fall to Grace Christian

The Houston boys suffered an 11-0 loss to Grace Christian in Anchorage last week.
