The Wasilla Warriors girls soccer squad earned a tourney title in dramatic fashion.
Wasilla notched a 2-1 double-overtime victory over the Kenai Kardinals to win the Homer Soccer Tournament Saturday in overtime. Jordan Sande scored the game-winner in the second overtime. Mylee Anderson recorded an assist on the goal.
Sande’s goal was the second of a pair of unanswered for the Warriors. After Kenai took the 1-0 lead, Makenna Hanson tied the score in the first half with a goal set up by an assist from Allie Dolick.
Wasilla moved into the championship game with a 5-1 victory over Soldotna in the semifinals. Lainey Kroon led the Warriors with two goals and an assist. Sande also scored twice. Violet Schachle added a goal. Anderson, Holly Marsh and Molly O’Neill had an assist each.
The Warriors opened the tourney with a 7-0 win over Ketchikan. Sande and Hanson had two goals each. Marsh recorded a goal and two assists. Anderson added a goal and an assist. Kroon also scored.
The win marked Wasilla’s fifth shutout of the season.
Anderson, Kroon and Marsh were named to the all-tournament team.
