ANCHORAGE - Chuck Tanner, of Wasilla, did his best to ignore the rainy, cold and windy weather and went out to post a 2-over-par 74 Sunday at Anchorage Golf Course to win the Alaska State Senior Open.
The annual tournament is for amateur golfers and was staged in flights ranging from the championship flight to eighth.
Tanner opened the three-day tournament with a 2-over-par 73 Friday at Settlers Bay Golf Course near Wasilla.
He followed that up with a 3-over-par 75 Saturday at the Palmer Golf Course.
The tournament format was for a round of golf on three different courses over three straight days.
That added challenge didnt defer Tanner, who carries a 2 handicap.
The three-day total gave Tanner a low score of 222 golf strokes and a 10-stroke victory over his nearest competitor.
In second place was Bill Renfrow, of Fairbanks, who finished the tourney at 232 strokes.
William Iverson was third at 237.
Among the women golfers, Luana Davis, of Anchorage, won for the third straight year and the fifth time in the past six years. She had a total score of 246.
Coralie Clapper was second at 279.
