The Wasilla High School drama department is presenting "Death Takes a Holiday," which runs Feb. 20-22 at 7 p.m. each night.
The drama has established itself among the important plays of our time, according to Kathy Baker of the WHS drama department.
It is based on a poetic conception of Death suspending all activities for three days, during which time he falls in love with a beautiful girl, and, through her, realizes why mortality fears him.
According to Baker, the mood of the play is established with remarkable skill, and while it is charged with exciting moments, it is a perfect background for a love story that is as simple as it is appealing. It arouses thought, stimulates discussion and presents a novel and optimistic philosophy on the problems of love and death.
Baker described the play as the original "Meet Joe Black."
The cast members are -- Nicole Mitchell, playing Aldo; Adam Tebow, playing Duke Lambert; Rebecca Knighton, playing Stephanie Lambert; MacKenzie Moses, playing Princess Marie; Tim McKiernan, playing Baron Cesaurea; Blair Pettijohn, playing Rhoda Fenton; Ben Fauske, playing Corrado; John Hartman, playing Eric Fenton; Megan Moore, playing Grazia; Kevin Brown, playing Prince Sirki (Death); Denis Krigbaum, playing Major Whitred; Erin Simpson, playing Cora; and Mike Dewan, playing Fedele. Dewan and Rachel Pope are the stage managers.
Admission is $4 for students and senior citizens, and $6 for adults.
