Wasilla High School choir students set to showcase their skills during upcoming fundraiser

WASILLA — The Wasilla High School choir program is hosting Solo Ensemble Night, a fundraising event that showcases student talent Friday, April 1.

WHS Students will perform various solo and ensemble pieces throughout the evening. Admission includes dinner and entertainment. The dinner starts at 6 p.m. and student performances start around 7:15 p.m.

There will also be a silent dessert auction. All proceeds from the event will go toward the WHS choir program, helping instructor Sara Guhl and her students prepare for upcoming trips and other expenses.

Guhl said their overall efforts are going well. She said they’re preparing for upcoming activities such as performing at the Alaska Sealife Center in Seward next week and regional competitions in April. She said it’s going to be bittersweet tying up the year since she’s going to have to say goodbye to numerous dedicated seniors.

“They’re gonna go out with a bang. I’m going to miss them,” Guhl said.

Guhl said that her favorite part of her job is watching the students grow their musical skills and develop all around as individuals by taking on various responsibilities and leadership roles. She said her students are very invested in their progress and it’s evident in their performances.

“They’ve really stepped up. They really work hard at it,” Guhl said. “We’re just trying to hang in there and finish the year strong.”
