WASILLA — Denali Law Group has been selected as the city’s new legal representation.

The announcement came Thursday after a day of marathon interviews and a unanimous vote by the city council. Other potential firms included Birch, Horton, Bittner and Cherot; Walker and Levesque; and Wohlforth, Johnson, Brecht, Cartledge and Brooking, all three Anchorage firms.

Mayor Verne Rupright said he was please with the vote and happy the council chose a local firm.

There were plans to hire a full-time, in-house attorney, but this was scrapped when the council voted down funding for the position in the 2010 budget. Instead, they will pay Denali Law Group an hourly fee of $170.

The council will vote on July 13 to approve the final contract. If approved, the law firm will be under contract Aug. 1.
