Wasilla hires new police chief

WASILLA — Mayor Verne Rupright announced today that Michael W. Hughes has been hired as the Wasilla Police Department’s new chief of police.

Hughes is a 20-year veteran of the Saginaw (Texas) Police Department, holds a master’s degree in criminal justice and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.

Hughes is married with four children and will be taking over his new role in mid-May.
