The junior varsity girls' volleyball match between Wasilla and Palmer gave plenty of action Tuesday as the two teams battled in a best-of-three match in Wasilla.
Wasilla won the first two games to take the match by scores of 15-9 and 15-13, after storming from behind in both games.
"It's always fun playing Wasilla because both teams play together in club ball," said Palmer coach Marge Johnson.
Wasilla coach Sandy Hoeft echoed the statement after the match.
Palmer jumped to a 4-0 lead and then a 7-3 lead in the first game behind the hard hitting of Aslyn Jones on the front court. Wasilla charged back and tied the game at 9-9 behind great serving and hard shots to open spots on the Palmer side.
Wasilla's Jessica Lewinski and Mary Moore delivered penetrating shots to bring Wasilla back in the game.
The momentum stayed with Wasilla as it finished the game 15-9.
Palmer again held a small lead midway through the second game 9-7 only to have the Warriors come back and tie the game at 9-9.
The two teams then exchanged five side outs with neither giving up a point.
Palmer finally broke the stalemate to take a 10-9 lead.
Palmer and Wasilla tied up again at 10, 11, and 13 points, with both teams trying to gain the advantage and put the game away.
Wasilla broke through with two quick points to bring the game to an abrupt end at 15-13 and give it the match.
