NIKOLAEVSK — The Wasilla Lake Christian School girls and Valley Christian boys each won Saturday to claim third place in the Nikolaevsk Warrior Rumble in Nikolaevsk.
Travis Bunker scored 26 points for Valley Christian and Alan Turner had 25 as the Bears beat Whittier 61-48 in the boys’ third place game.
Both Turner and Bunker were named to the boys all-tournament team, as was Wasilla Lake’s Adam Palmer. On the girls side, Nikki Hall and Mackenzie Sherman of Wasilla Lake were named all-tourney.
In the girls bracket, Wasilla Lake beat the host Warriors 42-35 Saturday to claim third place. Sherman paced the Rams with 11 points in the win, while Hall added 10 and Ashley Stringer had nine. Cassie Fefelov and Efrosia Yakunin each had 15 for Nikolaevsk.
Port Lions swept first place in both the boys and girls tournaments.
In the boys’ fifth place game Saturday, Wasilla Lake held Cantwell scoreless in the fourth quarter en route to a 60-11 win. Cory Woodruff had 25 points to lead the Rams, while Erik Hansen had 16 and Brendon Seiffert scored 10.
The three-day tournament featured schools from Nikolaevsk, Whittier, Cantwell, Port Lions, Cook Inlet Academy, Valley Christian and Wasilla Lake Christian.
The Valley Christian boys dropped a 71-53 decision Thursday evening to Port Lions after taking a 53-48 decision from Wasilla Lake in the afternoon.
On Friday, Wasilla Lake got 17 points from Adam Palmer and 12 from Zachary Retzlaff in a 55-50 loss to Port Lions.
The Wasilla Lake girls dropped their first two games of the tournament, falling 71-53 to Port Lions Thursday and losing 35-24 to the CIA JV Friday. Mackenzie Sherman had 14 points for Wasilla Lake in the loss.
