TOK — The Wasilla Lake boys’ basketball team was on the verge of making school history. But Tri-Valley played spoiler.
The Tri-Valley Viking Warriors used consecutive victories Saturday night to win the Central Interior Conference Championship at Tok High School.
Tri-Valley secured the conference’s lone state tournament berth. Wasilla Lake would have advanced to the state tourney for the first time in program history with a win.
In the true double-elimination tournament, Tri-Valley scored a 69-48 win over the Rams, who were previously undefeated in the tourney.
In the deciding game, the Viking Warriors were able to come away with the 69-58 victory.
Wasilla Lake moved to within a step of the championship with a 52-49 win over that same Tri-Valley team in the semifinals on Friday.
Taylor Roth scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Rams. Josh Grissom added 15 points.

TOK — The Wasilla Lake Christian girls finished 1-2 during the Central Interior Conference championships at Tok over the wekeend.
The Rams sandwiched a 35-20 win over Anderson with losses to Birchwood and host Tok.
Mindy Gonzales supplied 16 points during Wasilla Lake’s win over Anderson. Krista Opliger added a dozen in the victory. The Rams held Anderson, an Interior program, scoreless in the third quarter.
Wasilla Lake opened tourney play with a 61-31 loss to Birchwood Christian, a school in the Chugiak area. Chelsea Mosier scored a team-best 10 for the Rams.
The Rams’ season came to an end with a 48-27 loss to host Tok. Gonzales scored 13 points.
