Wasilla man convicted on child sex charges

PALMER — Twenty-nine year old Dylan Paul of Wasilla was convicted of nine counts of possession of child pornography, one count of unlawful exploitation of a minor, two counts of third-degree sexual assault, and one count each of second and first-degree sexual assault in Palmer Superior Court Wednesday.

According to an Alaska State Trooper dispatch, a two-week jury trial resulted in Paul’s conviction stemming from an investigation which began in January of 2014. Police reported the Alaska Bureau of Investigation’s Child Abuse Investigation Unit learned that a juvenile female had allegedly been sexually abused by Paul in April of 2013. Police say subsequent investigation corroborated the allegations and identified additional potential juvenile victims.

Police arrested Paul on 23 total Class C Felony charges without incident on Oct. 10, 2014. He originally faced 13 counts of possession of child pornography, four counts of first-degree sexual assault, three counts of second-degree sexual assault and three counts of third-degree sexual assault. Following his arrest, Paul was remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial Facility and bail set at $50,000 plus court-approved third party custodian.

Dylan remains lodged without bail and scheduled for sentencing on March 31, 2017 in Palmer Superior Court.
