MAT-SU — A 51-year-old Wasilla man was killed Thursday evening in a head-on collision on Big Lake Road.
Edward Irish Sr. was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency responders administered medical attention to him, Alaska State Troopers report.
Irish, who was not wearing a seat belt, was driving a 1991 Chevy Lumina van northbound on Big Lake Road at about 5 p.m. when the van slid out of control and collided head-on with a 2000 Ford Pickup that was also northbound on Big Lake Road near the intersection of Beaver Lake Road.
The driver of the Ford, James Hettrick, 30, of Big Lake, and a passenger were wearing seat belts, the report says. They were treated for minor injuries at the scene and released.
