ANCHORAGE--A 41-year old Wasilla man was sentenced in federal court to 21 months in prison on a felon in possession of a firearm.
Brandon Paul Schatz appeared before U.S. District Court Judge Sharon L. Gleason Thursday. Gleason also sentenced Schatz to three years of supervised release. According to Acting U.S. Attorney Bryan Schroder, on May 23, 2016, Schatz brought a loaded Glock semi-automatic pistol to his place of employment. At the time, Schatz was on felony probation with the State of Alaska for third-degree felony assault.
In imposing sentence, Gleason said her sentence focused on protection of the public given Schatz’s prior convictions for assault, weapons offenses, and driving under the influence. Schroder commended the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Alaska State Troopers for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of the case.
