Alaska State Troopers conducted a search on a property in Houston for Kyle Lambert of Wasilla, June 14, who had an active felony warrant for his arrest.
In an online dispatch, AST reported that they had been searching the property around 11:30 p.m. to find and arrest Lambert, 34, on a felony warrant. As troopers searched for the man, they state Lambert was hiding in a camper on the property and refused to come out, despite repeated orders to do so.
When Troopers breached the camper to arrest Lambert, he produced a handgun.
“Due to his actions, the man was shot by multiple Troopers,” the dispatch reported.
He was declared deceased at the scene.
Reports indicate that no one else was injured during the incident.
Lambert was sought on a $5,000 warrant issued earlier in the week for violating his conditions of release on October theft and drug charges.
Next of kin have been notified, and Lambert’s body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.
The Alaska Bureau of Investigation has assumed case responsibility and will conduct a thorough investigation into the shooting. Once their investigation has been completed, it will be independently reviewed by the Alaska Office of Special Prosecutions. Per Department of Public Safety (DPS) policy, the Troopers who discharged their firearms have been placed on 7 days of administrative leave in accordance with DPS policy; their names will be released in three days.
