Wasilla man killed Tuesday in moose vs. motorcycle accident

FAIRVIEW — A Wasilla man died Tuesday afternoon after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a moose.

Alaska State Troopers say a single-vehicle accident was reported on Fairview Loop near Redoubt Drive at 12:54 p.m., Tuesday.

Troopers on scene found Michael Carlyle, 35, of Wasilla, had been operating a 1991 Harley-Davidson Motorcycle northbound on Fairview Loop when he collided with a moose and was thrown several hundred feet, according to an AST dispatch.

Carlyle died on scene and it appears the moose died on impact, troopers report.

Fairview Loop was closed and traffic was diverted during the investigation.

“It appears that Carlyle was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision,” according to the dispatch.

He leaves behind a wife and four children.

The Alaska Moose Federation responded to transport the moose to charity, troopers said.
