Wasilla man make first court appearance after 16 decomposing animals found in home

A Wasilla man arrested earlier this summer on animal cruelty charges after Alaska State Troopers (AST) found more than a dozen dead animals at a local home, made his first court appearance last week.

Kevin Neher, 42, faces six counts of animal cruelty, including three felonies for inflicting pain on the animals and three misdemeanors for failing to care for them. Neher made a court appearance in Palmer on September 5, and was released on $2,500 bail. He is also prohibited from having animals in his control or possession.

In a dispatch posted online, AST responded and located 16 dead animals on the property, 13 of which were decaying in the garage of the property, and had been for more than six months.

Additionally, Mat-Su Borough Animal Control seized two large-breed dogs that were severely underweight and a healthy cat with consent from the owner. Multiple reports suggest additional animals were found in the owner’s garage and that conditions were filthy with feces, with food and water bowls empty.
