PALMER — David Kazarian, a 56-year old Wasilla resident, was sentenced to 50 years prison in Palmer Superior Court Tuesday for sexual abuse of a minor.
According to court documents, Kazarian originally faced 10 Class C felony counts — four counts of incest and six count of first-degree sexual abuse of a minor. Records state the sexual abuse charges occurred over a four-year period starting in late March of 2009. The incest charges occurred over more than two years beginning in February of 2013. The Alaska Attorney General's Office said the investigation revealed the abuse had occurred for more than a decade.
The conviction stems from an October of 2015 Alaska State Trooper investigation. Kazarian was scheduled to go trial in July but pleaded guilty to consolidated count on the sexual abuse charges prior to his court date. Charging documents were filed against him in late October 2015 and Kazarian has remained jailed on a $250,000 cash/corporate plus court-appointed third party bail since his initial arrest.
At sentencing, Superior Court Judge Kari Kristiansen said the sentence will protect both the public and the victim.
