On Monday, incumbent Mayor Glenda Ledford was sworn in for her second term of office after the residents of Wasilla re-elected her for a second term on October 3.
“I want to thank you all for the support you have given me,” Mayor Ledford said after being sworn in, then took time to recognize and thank the various directors in the City of Wasilla administration.
“With them, we are the team that puts Wasilla forward…we are expanding and growing and that is in part due to all of the people that work here. You are only as good as your team, and I have an excellent team.”
Present for the ceremony were members of her family including a great-granddaughter, who she thanked for their love and support.
“They always support whatever big idea I have,” she proudly told the attendees.
As for what’s next for the city, Mayor Ledford is eager to continue the big projects already underway to keep Wasilla moving forward.
“We will continue on with the city, with the airport, water, and waste water. Those are our big three issues.”
Wasilla recently broke ground on the Wasilla Municipal Airport expansion project that will expand the flight line, allowing for more flights and somewhat bigger airplanes, and more opportunities for Wasilla.
“We’ve got expansion projects that will bring more jobs, and every job we create in this city is one car off the road, more income for our people.”
The next Wasilla City Council meeting will be held Monday, October 23 at 6 p.m.
