The New Year’s Eve Fireworks Show for the City of Wasilla has been postponed due to the high winds. The city posted a notice on their Facebook page alerting people who may have planned to attend the festivities.
“The City’s top priority is the safety of residents, visitors, and staff, and we will not proceed with fireworks unless conditions are safe.”
The National Weather Service issued another high wind warning for Big Lake, Wasilla, and Palmer from 6 p.m. tonight and is set to expire at 6 a.m. tomorrow morning.
Wind speeds are expected from 15 to 25 mph, with gusts from 40 to 50 mph, decidedly lower than what residents have been experiencing for the past month.
The City says that a new date will be announced as soon as one is confirmed.
