PALMER — The Wasilla boys earned a second-place finish at the 2007 Valley Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Palmer Pool.
Wasilla’s Christian Long won the boys’ 200 yard individual medley in a time of 2 minutes, 11.33 seconds to lead the Warriors.
The Warrior boys team also earned second place in both the 200-yard medley and 400 freestyle relay events. Other top Wasilla performers included Charles Frey, who finished second in the boys’ 100 backstroke, Max Merriam (third place in the boys’ 200 freestyle) and David Kennedy (third place in diving).
Kodiak swept both the boys’ and girls’ overall team events. Colony placed fifth in the boys’ meet, while Palmer was ninth.
Colony’s Jeffrey Frey picked up two top-three finishes to lead the Colony boys. Frey won the boys’ 100 yard freestyle in a time of 51.03 seconds and also placed third in the 100 backstroke. Rhowe Stefanski and Tim Schachle each added second-place finishes for the Knights — Schachle in diving and Stefanski in the boys’ 50 freestyle.
Rachel Kennedy won the 3-meter diving event for the Wasilla girls, which tied for fifth-place with Colony in the girls’ team competition.
Colony sophomore Katelyn Payne finished second in the girls’ 100 backstroke to lead the Knights. Payne also helped the Colony girls to a third place finish in the 200 yard medley relay event.
Palmer’s Madelyn Peterson finished second in the diving event for the seventh-place Palmer girls, while Kyle Johnson picked up a third place finish in the 100 backstroke to pace the Moose boys.
