Pint-sized, and not-so-pint-sized superheroes, fairies, knights and soldiers all came out to the Wasilla Public Library to celebrate some early Halloween fun and a concert on October 22.
Sponsored by Friends of the Wasilla Library, the family friendly event was sponsored by Mat-Su Health Foundation, Nonna’s Osteria, 95.5 The Pass, AKtive Soles, The Alaska Club, Fly Trampoline Park, to name just a few.
Inside, kids and their adults could explore different stations set up and pick up a free book provided by Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, decorate plastic skulls made from repurposed milk jugs, or simply enjoy some hot cocoa or cider. Meanwhile, outside, members of the Wasilla High School Girls Basketball team handed out treats along the story walk stations as children and families could trick or treat while reading a book especially for the season.
“We came out to support the community and the kids,” said Audrey Cox, a junior at WHS who was volunteering.
“We definitely want to take advantage of the events the community has to offer,” said Linda Coughlin, who brought her two young children out to the Halloween event while her husband is currently deployed. “We feel very grateful to be here.”
Later in the evening, musical group 3000-21 and musician Aspenyarrow took to the stage inside the library for a concert, capping off a wonderful event enjoyed by all.
“Amazing! This was excellent,” said Jeanne Troshyniski, President of FOWL, who said the event attendance was surpassing last year. “It’s fun to see all the costumes and the families having fun. That’s what it’s all about.”
