Wasilla residents among 16 charged with federal firearm and drug trafficking crimes

Three Wasilla residents were among 16 arrested and charged wit federal firearm and drug trafficking crimes Feb. 25 during a sting the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives dubbed “Operation Cold Snap.”

Nathaniel Sofianos, 30, and Korina Thompson, 32, were charged with distribution of controlled substances, possession of firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking, and being felons in possession of firearms, according to U.S. Attorney Bryan Schroder. Dana Dwyer, 43, was charged with being a felon in possession of firearms. The other 13 charged are from Anchorage.

During the operation, 82 illegal firearms, seven pounds of methamphetamine and about 300 grams of heroin were recovered. The investigation lasted over the course of several months. The Anchorage Police Department, Alaska State Troopers, Drug Enforcement Agency, Federal Bureau of Investigation, US Marshals Service, Anchorage Airport Police and Coast Guard Investigative Service assisted with the investigation.
