Hailee Giacobbe continues to tighten her grip on Alaska girls cross-country running gold.
The Wasilla junior and defending Division I state champion extended her streak Saturday afternoon, winning the girls varsity race at the Mustang Smokin Stampede at the Beach Lake Trails in Chugiak.
Giacobbe clocked a time of 18 minutes, 46 seconds, 11 seconds faster than runner-up Rosie Conway of East Anchorage. She is now 6-for-6 this season, and has won 10 straight races for a streak that dates back to September of 2024.
Palmer senior Bodie Miller also continued his impressive season with another runner-up finish Saturday. Miller posted a time of 16:05, only behind defending state champion Katahdin Staples, of East, who finished at 15:48.
Miller’s time Saturday was also a personal record. He now has three runner-up finishes this year, and has not placed below the top four in five races.
Colony placed second in both the boys and girls team standings.
The Colony boys finished with 98 total points. South Anchorage captured the crown with 74. A pair of runners in the top five fueled Colony. Seniors Gabriel Black (16:32) and Trygve Vang-Thompson (16:40) were fourth and fifth.
The Colony girls were second with 126 points. Host Chugiak cruised to the team title with 39.
Junior Aubrey Virgin led Colony at ninth, with a mark of 19:45. Freshman Clara Sensabaugh was 25th at 20:49.
Wasilla freshman Justin Dalitsch notched a 10th-place finish and time of 16:49 to lead the Warriors boys. Palmer junior Karley Tichenor led the Moose girls at 20:31, and 19th place.
