Wasilla runner wins 100-mile race; teen victorious in Running with the Bulls

WASILLA — David Johnston has conquered another adventure race.

Last weekend, the Wasilla runner won the Resurrection Pass 100, a race that leads competitors over treterous trai from Cooper Landing to Hope and back. Johnston finished the course, plagued by less than ideal running conditions, in 21 hours and 12 minutes to win his second 100-miler in six months. Johnston, 40, also won the Susitna 100 in February.

Laura McDonough was second, finishing halfway through her 23rd hour on the trail.

Wasilla High runner wins run with bulls

PALMER — Noah Ripley, an incoming junior at Wasilla High School, finished first in the Running with the Bulls Sunday at the Palmer Musk Ox Farm.

Ripley finished the 5-kilometer course in 18 minutes and 10 seconds to post the victory. Josh Pahkala (18:59), Chris Osiensky (19:23) and Keith Thompson (19:23) also broke the 20-minute mark.

Danielle Gerik posted the top time in the women’s class, with a 23:04. Gerik was just faster than Katy Culver (23:06) and Erin Skvorc (23:13).
