ANCHORAGE - A pair of Wasilla seniors are now two-time state champions.
Wasilla's Tyler Adams and Abe Fox each won an individual state title for the second consecutive year during the final round of the ASAA/First National Bank 4A State Wrestling Championships at Bartlett High School on Saturday.
Colony senior Ty Farber won his first state title, beating Service's Derrick Zorea 15-9 in the 220-pound final.
In a thrilling match, Adams scored points during the final seconds of regulation to edge Soldotna senior Auston Tennis 9-7 in the 145-pound final. The match, the only contest in the final round that featured two defending state champions, was tied at 7 late. Tennis nearly turned Adams as the seconds ticked off the clock, but Adams was able to score a pair of near-fall points just before time expired.
Fox earned his second straight crown by beating Kodiak's Francis Llorente 3-2 in the 120-pound final.
In other action, Colony's Simon Root finished second at 160 after a 5-2 loss to Service's Daniel Murakami.
