WASILLA — The Wasilla Warriors continued their hot start with an 8-6 win over rival Colony at Wasilla High School Monday evening.
Nolan Monaghan scattered nine hitters and four earned runs over five innings of work, and earned the win on the mound for the Warriors. Tyler Boensch pitched the final two innings and notched the save.
Wasilla used a big fourth inning to take the lead. Trailing 4-2, the Warriors erupted for five runs in the inning to take the 7-4 lead. Wasilla drew 11 walks in the win. Blake Marks and Sam Loyer each walked three times. Loyer scored three runs in the win.
Wasilla, which opened its season with nonconference wins over Bartlett and Service last Saturday in Anchorage, is now 3-0. Colony dropped to 0-1 with the loss.
