Wasilla scores first hockey win of season

The Wasilla Warriors earned their first win of the 2021-2022 prep hockey season Oct. 29. Wasilla scored three times in the first and held on for a 3-2 win over Service at the McDonald Arena in Eagle River.

All three of Wasilla’s goals came within a three-minute span. Evan Koivunen gave Wasilla with a power play goal with 12:44 left in the first. Roman Holler and Karson McGrew also scored.

Branson Starheim and Austin Peterson finished with an assist each.

Jakob Barcelona made 21 saves and earned the win in the Warriors net.

Wasilla opened the season with a 3-1 loss to West Anchorage Oct. 28 at the Brett Memorial Ice Arena. Koivunen scored Wasilla’s lone goal. Barcelona made 25 saves.

West outshot Wasilla 28-18.
