WASILLA — A number of players were in the running for the Railbelt Conference’s offensive player of the year award. But there were about 1,300 reasons why Wasilla senior Devon Teeling ran away with the honor.
Teeling, who rushed for a state-high 1,339 yards, has been named the conference’s top offensive player by Railbelt coaches.
Teeling also scored a dozen touchdowns during his senior season to help Wasilla advance to the postseason for the first time since 2007 and earn a conference title for the first time since 1999.
First-year Wasilla head coach Kent Rilatos was named the Railbelt’s coach of the year. Palmer’s Tim Popowski was named the assistant coach of the year.
Teeling was one of seven Wasilla players to garner first-team honors. Senior Braydon Kuiper was named first-team at both tight end and defensive end.
Palmer senior Ben Self was named co-lineman of the year, alongside North Pole’s Garrett Longoria. Self was also one of five Moose listed on the first team. Senior Jackson Buresh was named first-team quarterback for the second consecutive year.
Seniors Ty Farber (linebacker) and Andrew McCallister (tackle) represented Colony on the first team.
This is a developing story. Check back for more and see the Friday print edition for full coverage.
