ANCHORAGE — A pair of Wasilla sisters finished in the top four of the women’s class of the Alaska State Amateur golf championships, which concluded Sunday at Anchorage Golf Course.
Rynae Baca, a former Alaska State Amateur champion, finished third with a four-day gross score total of 321. The 14-year-old finished two strokes ahead of her 12-year-old sister Madison.
Anchorage’s Margaux Sheehan is the 2009 amateur champion after shooting a 304. Brittany Bomar, who will compete for Division I University of Hawaii in the fall, finished second with a 313.
Sheehan won for the second time.
Players started the four-day tour of Southcentral courses at Palmer Golf Course last Thursday. The second day was spent at Settlers Bay. Participants played Eagleglenn Golf Course on Elmendorf Air Force Base, before capping play with 18 holes at AGC.
Rynae Baca posted her best total at Palmer Golf Course, shooting a 75 on the first day. Madison finished with a 75 at AGC on Sunday.
Madison Baca finished first in the women’s net score. Her net total, which is her gross score minus her course handicap, was a 261.
Casey Cusack, of Anchorage, won his first Alaska State Amateur title by finishing first in the men’s division with a gross score of 297.
Cusack was the lone player to break the 300-mark. Tyrone Paulsen was second with a 302.
