Wasilla Soil and Water Conservation District announces poster winners

MAT-SU — Mat-Su Borough School District students did very well in the annual Conservation Poster Contest sponsored by Wasilla Soil and Water Conservation District.

District manager Chuck Kaucic said seven of the state’s 11 poster contest winners are from Valley schools. Awards were presented during a ceremony at Midnight Sun Charter School Nov. 12.

At the contest’s local level, Midnight Sun students won all but one of the prizes presented to district students. Winners at the local level were entered into the National Association of Conservation Districts annual contest. Local level winners were:

• Grades 2-3: First, Isaiah Petty; second, Brystal Bush; third, Connor Halvorson.

• Grades 4-6: First, Cameryn Servin; second, Micah Bedwell; third, Amber Godin.

• Grades 7-8: First, Evan Joyce; second, Ethan Brussard; third, Camille Dayton.

National level winners were:

• Grades 7-8: First, Evan Joyce, Midnight Sun Charter School, Wasilla; second, Ethan Brassard, Midnight Sun; third, Jaedyn Gale, home school, Wasilla.

• Grades 4-6: First, Amber Godin, Midnight Sun.

• Grades 2-3: First, Isaiah Petty, Midnight Sun; second, Brystal Bush, Midnight Sun; third, Connor Halverson, Midnight Sun.
