Wasilla sophomore Hailee Giacobbe struck gold on her home course.
Giacobbe used a time of 19 minutes, 4 seconds to win the girls varsity of the Wasilla Trailblazer cross-country running meet Friday at the Maureen McCombs Equestrian Trail in Wasilla.
Giacobbe also helped the Warriors finish second in the girls team standings with 42 total points. Junior Kinley Bruno and sophomore McKenzie Ray also placed in the top 10 for Wasilla. Bruno (20:43) was sixth and Ray (21:08) placed ninth.
Sophomore Karley Tichenor led Palmer with a third-place finish and time of 19:57 in the varsity girls race.
The Warriors won the boys team title with 40 points. Senior Stephen Hafen led the Warriors with a runner-up finish and time of 16:52. Sophomore Blaze Rubeo was third for Wasilla at 17:10. Freshman Nathan Stapley (17:40) also placed eighth.
Freshman Finn Adams led Palmer with a fourth-place finish and time of 17:24.
Sophomore Raven Spangler led Colony with a ninth-place finish and time of 17:43. Junior Breeze Buchanan led the Colony girls with a 16th-place finish and time of 21:54.
Colony also sent teams to the State Preview Meet Saturday at Bartlett.
Senior Ella Hopkins was the varsity girls runner-up with a time of 19:31. Colony was second in the team standings with 103 points. Aubrey Virgin was 14th for Colony.
The Colony boys finished third in the team standings. Senior Coby Marvin led the Knights with an eighth-place finish and time of 17:16. Junior Trygve Vang-Thompson was 14th for CHS.
