Wasilla spikers net win over rival Moose

PALMER -- The Wasilla Warriors scored a 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-13) win over the Palmer Moose in Region III volleyball action at Palmer High School Tuesday.

"We played well -- all the way around," Wasilla head coach Marge Johnson said.

Johnson noted that the serving of the Warriors proved to be a key in the match.

"It allowed us to keep the momentum," Johnson said.

The Moose and the Warriors played a tight first game, with Wasilla coming from behind early.

Once the Warriors were able to take over the momentum late in the first game, the club rolled through the final two games.

Johnson also said the Warriors had solid play from their middle blockers. Prior to the contest Johnson moved junior Tarrah Naczi from her outside hitter position to the middle.

"She played well," Johnson said. "[Tarrah] can block anywhere on the net."

Naczi was among team leaders in kills in the contest, collecting eight.

Laurel Creel registered nine kills and eight digs, both game highs. Carlie Douglas added seven kills and seven digs.

Wasilla improved to 3-1 in region play.

Palmer dropped to 0-3 in region play and 2-6 overall with the loss.

"We just could not get anything going," Palmer head coach Steve Reynolds said. "It was pretty disappointing."

Palmer faces Valdez at home on Oct. 2, while Wasilla is off until it competes in the West High School Spiketacular Oct. 3-4.
