Wasilla students win state contest again

Sponsored by the World Affairs Council, the Academic WorldQuestion 2010 tests students’ knowledge and depth of understanding in 10 categories. Wasilla High School is the state winner for the second year in a row and the third time in four years.

Team members are Haley Dampier, Lindsey Richey, Rachel Kennedy and Valerie Schleich. Anthony Jensen is teacher/advisor.

The 2010 Academic WorldQuest will be held April 24 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. The questions for the state championship came from 10 categories:

• Current Events

• Great Decisions 2009 (Rising Powers; Energy & The U.S. Economy; Human Rights; and more)

• Pandemics

• Genocide (20th and 21st centuries)

• International Migration Trends

• Food Production and Consumption

• World Music (A bridge around the world)

• World Cup (South Africa in 2010)

• Country Categories
