The Wasilla Sunrise Rotary Club held its annual 4-Way Test Speech Contest at Wasilla High School April 11. The 4-Way Test Contest requires each contestant to provide a three-minute speech about a topic of their selection.

The speech must apply the topic to how it relates to the Rotary 4-Way Test, a measure of the things we think, say or do:

1. Is it the truth?

2. Is it fair to all concerned?

3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?

4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned.

Participants included Andrew Palmer, Skyanne Massie, Joshua Wilson, Aubrey Dubois, Jeremiah Zeedar-Boeck and Ginger Shepardson. The judges were Greg Brooker, Andrew Faiks, Dr. James Martin, Mark Lee, Chris Lee, Eldon Bell and Trish Keown.

Palmer won the contest, followed by Zeedar-Boeck, Massie and Dubois.

All of the men and women who spoke in the contest were impressive. Their presentations were interesting, prepared and well delivered, and it was a true privilege to listen to them.

The contest is an annual event that Wasilla Sunrise Rotary has sponsored for about 12 years, and each year it is a real treat to hear the presentations prepared and delivered by the young women and men. These will be tomorrow’s leaders, and judging from the quality of their speeches, we will be in good hands.

A special thanks to Jason Moen, Vice Principal of Wasilla High School, who helped coordinate the contest. We look forward to many more years of sponsoring and running this event.

Greg Brooker is the Community Service Co-Chair for the Wasilla Sunrise Rotary Club.
