Wasilla swimmer wins state title

ANCHORAGE — Wasilla senior Jeff Frey became the first Mat-Su Valley athlete to win a state swimming title in a decade with a win in the 50-yard freestyle during the ASAA/First National Bank 4A State Swimming and Diving Championships at Bartlett High School.

Frey also won the 100 freestyle title later in the meet.

Former Palmer standout Dirk Craft was the last local swimmer to win gold at state. Craft earned his title in 2000.
