Wasilla's volleyball team wasted no time sweeping three games from Houston Friday in Wasilla.
Wasilla won by scores of 15-7, 15-0, and 15-5.
The Warriors' trademark of solid serves and pinpoint hitting kept Houston off balance, forcing it to play defense instead of attacking.
In the first game, Wasilla jumped to a quick 11-1 lead with serves and returns that overpowered Houston. With the score 14-2, Houston mounted a small rally, scoring five unanswered points off sharp serves of its own.
The lead was too large, as Wasilla regrouped and put the game away.
Houston was unable to get any offense going in the second game.
Wasilla's Alayna Morgan started the game serving and quickly led the
Warriors to a 5-0 lead behind her powerful jump serve.
Morgan had six aces in the match.
Wasilla servers were particularly tough in the game, providing little opportunity for Houston to get anything going.
Houston scored points early in the third game, holding Wasilla close at 3-3.
Wasilla then jumped out again and closed the game and match behind the unstoppable serve of Morgan and crushing kills by Sophia Taylor and Lacey Adcock.
Adcock had seven kills and Taylor added five kills in the match.
The Warriors continued their torrid pace of winning Saturday in Chugiak.
Wasilla dropped the first game 13-15, but came back and won the next three games by scores of 15-2, 15-3, and 15-2 to win the match.
"We made some passing and serving errors in the first game," said Wasilla coach Cindy Plano. "We were able get it back together in the other games."
The match showcased a great team effort by Wasilla. Adcock had seven kills in the match with Lindsey Shogren and Morgan contributing six.
Miranda Hocker served seven aces in the match and Caitlin Fisher added four.
Fisher also contributed 19 digs and Amanda Gehring had 13 assists in the match.
