POINT MACKENZIE — A Wasilla teen died Wednesday when the Ford Windstar minivan he was driving rolled multiple times.
According to an Alaska State Troopers press statement, the accident was reported at 10:39 a.m. on South Cameo Drive, which is off Point MacKenzie Road.
Trooper say the van was headed toward Point MacKenzie when the 15-year-old driver, Rowdy J. Taber of Wasilla, lost control and the van rolled mutiple times.
There were eight other people in the van at the time. Troopers report none of them were older than 16 and none were wearing seatbelts.
“Two of the occupants were partially ejected,” according to the press statement.
The caller who reported the crash said in the call that CPR was already in progress on one of the victims. Mat-Su Borough Deputy Director of Emergency Services Clint Vardeman said borough medics didn’t make it on scene until 11 a.m. because the crash was so far down Point MacKenzie Road.
Troopers say Tabor was pronounced dead at the scene. Six of the other eight teenagers were hospitalized with injuries troopers said were not life threatening. Officers are investigating if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
