FAIRBANKS — A Wasilla woman and a passenger in her car were killed Friday evening in a three-car collision near Mile 355 Parks Highway.
Alaska State Troopers responded to the crash at about 8:35 p.m. to find that Alecia Loraine Phillips, 18, and the passenger in her 1992 Pontiac dead following a head-on collision with a Kenworth semi, according to an AST press release.
The passenger is not being identified until troopers can notify next of kin, the report says.
An investigation at the scene shows that Phillips was driving north on the Parks Highway and apparently attempting to pass a blue 2003 Subaru Forester when she hit the Subaru and crossed the center line, the AST report says. When her car crossed the line, it was hit by the large truck, which was pulling double trailers.
The driver of the semi, Michael John Myers, 41, Fairbanks, was transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the report says, adding that the driver of the Subaru suffered no injuries.
Troopers also report all involved in the collision were wearing their seat belts and that alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the fatal crash.
No other information, including the identification of the deceased passenger, was available at press time.
